Veteran’s Park & Memorial
The Veteran’s Park and Memorial is one of the newest parks in Morrison, IL. Located on East High Street by Grove Hill Cemetery, the park provides a tranquil spot to consider the sacrifices made by Morrison area veterans. The park includes a Howitzer field artillary piece, which spurred the parks initial growth, and tablets inscribed with the names of deceased Morrison area veterans, along with their date of death, burial place, and the war in which they served. Two granite benches, donated by two Morrison service organizations, provide visitors a spot to sit and relect, with the American flag, POW/MIA flag, and the State of Illinois flag flying overhead.
Several businesses have donated their time, materials, or given a monetary donation toward the developmental effort of the park. In an opportunity for everyone to become a part of this lasting memorial, the City of Morrison has made the purchase of brick pavers available to the public. Anyone can become a lasting part of the Morrison Veteran’s Park & Memorial project by purchasing a personalized brick. The bricks will be placed near the walkway around the Park.
Anyone may purchase a brick. You need not be a veteran and the brick need not contain the name of a veteran. The price of each brick is $100. Order forms are available at City Hall or by calling (815) 772-7657. For person’s living outside the area, the form is available online at www.morrisonil.org. Completed forms should be mailed to: City of Morrison, Brick Paver Order, 200 West Main Street, Morrison, IL 61270. Please contact the City of Morrison if you have any questions.
