Parks & Recreation

The City of Morrison is proud of its parks and recreational areas and strives to continuously improve and offer new recreational activities to its residents and visitors.  Morrison’s newest park is the 35 acre Morrison Recreational Complex, located on the east edge of town along Route 30 and the intersection of Bishop Road.  The park features four fast-pitch softball/little league diamonds, one baseball diamond, and a junior tackle and football field.  A sledding area, nature trail, and a walking path connecting with North Jackson Street are also planned.  Please contact Jim DuBois, Director of the Sports Complex, at (815) 772-6139 with any questions or interest.

little-leaguers1Waterworks Park has 12.4 acres and offers a baseball diamond, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, a playground, sledding, and a picnic area.  A dog park is in the planning stages.  Waterworks Park is located on the south side of Morrison on W. Winfield Street.

For the non-traditionalists, there is the professionally designed 9-hole Frisbee Golf Course at Kelly Park.  This park has 3.4 acres and is located adjacent to Grove Hill Cemetery, just off of E. High Street.  Tennis courts, a playground, a walking path, and a picnic area can also be found at Kelly Park.

Kiwanis Park, located on N. Genesee Street, is 1/2 acre with playground equipment, picnic area, and Rolle Bolle court.  It is also the home of the annual Easter Egg Hunt, sponsored by the Kiwanis of Morrison.

French Creek Park is a newer addition to Morrison’s park system, providing a great walking path amongst prairie grasses and the French Creek.  It also boasts soccer fields, a playground, a picnic area and the Morrison Community Garden.

If you are looking for a great place to have lunch outdoors in Morrison’s historic downtown district, Robert A. Millikan Park is the place.  Named for Morrison’s own Robert A. Millikan, who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1923, this park is a delightful addition to the downtown.

Morrison has a variety of recreational opportunities for its residents including golf, bowling, racing, swimming, archery, model airplanes, dancing, theater, and table tennis.

The City of Morrison offers a summer recreation program that has activities for children and during the school year, has soccer and basketball leagues available.  Other sports programs for children include T-ball, Little League and senior league baseball, girls softball, Pop Warner and Junior Tackle football, volleyball, youth wrestling club, and Seahorse Swimming Club.
